Self Portrait

My name is Kylea Custer and people commonly mispronounce my first name. My first name is a mix of my parents names. My dad's name is Kyle and my mom's name is Lea (lee) so my name is Kylea (Ki-lee). I was born and raised in Las Vegas, the Sin City but my heart belongs in Texas where I served an 18 month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  I have been into photography and cameras my whole life. In high school I was in yearbook for two years and I was the Editor-in-Chief my senior year. I was also the historian for several other clubs. I am currently using a Nikon D5500 with an 18-55 mm zoom lens that has an f-stop of 3.6-22 and I am hoping to have a 50mm prime lens later this year.

Axioms

The Axioms we discussed in class are great depth-of-field, shallow depth-of-field, slow shutter speed, and fast shutter speed. In the following photos I will demonstrate those axioms. Shallow Depth-of-Field Aperture was at F-stop 3.5. Shutter speed was 1/30. ISO 400. Focuses on what is right in front of the camera, things farther away are blurry. Great Depth-of-Field  Aperture F-stop 22. Shutter 1/1.3 More of the photo is clear and crisp. Fast Shutter Speed Shutter speed 1/1600. F-stop 7.1. ISO 400 (Frozen motion) Slow Shutter Speed Shutter speed 1/40. F 22. ISO 400. (The ball and his catching hand a blurred.) I noticed that it was a lot harder to use a slow shutter speed when there is a lot of light outside which is a given. I had to make my aperture much smaller so that less light would come in.

The Trapping Sensation of Anxiety

Here in my photos I have tried to illustrate what having anxiety feels like. For those of us who do not suffer from anxiety it is often hard to understand what our friends and/or family are going through when an anxiety attack hits. Many of my family members have and anxiety and depression. It has often been described to me as a trapped feeling. They feel like they can't escape this overwhelming feeling. I darkened my photos and put them into black and white to give it more of a real sense.
