Hard News (Feature is story before)

Image
The hard news has been especially difficult for me because of my insanely busy schedule. Every time I listened to the scanner it happened to be a quiet night. I came upon this accident leaving the grocery store. It blocked off the east bound lanes of St. George Blvd. from Bluff Street to 300 East. I unfortunately only had my phone so the image quality is not very good.  The driver was hit trying to make a left turn out the parking lot. It was a teenager driving and the parents who arrived were angry with the situation. Honestly I am not a fan of spot news, I feel very nosy.

Feature: St. George Animal Shelter Provides Cozy, Temporary Home

Image
The City of St. George Animal Shelter keeps a clean ship for its daily passengers. Almost every animal brought into the shelter is spayed or neutered and then able to be put up for adoption. While they wait they are able to enjoy walks with various volunteers and staff members. The animals are also able to run in the play areas to get exercise. The cat facility is open for all the cats to roam an inside and outside sanctuary. This is a no kill shelter and offers a pleasant stay for any animal. I really enjoyed this feature shoot. I definitely believe features and sports are my strong suits. With this particular piece I had several options of photos to choose from but I felt these photos portrayed the message I wanted. Peer Edit: Matthew Hansen I felt Matthew provided us with his best work and he portrayed the event well. I didn't feel like I needed to make any major edits. It was a clean, creative shoot. There were lot of establishing shots, I fee

The Trapping Sensation of Anxiety

Image
Here in my photos I have tried to illustrate what having anxiety feels like. For those of us who do not suffer from anxiety it is often hard to understand what our friends and/or family are going through when an anxiety attack hits. Many of my family members have and anxiety and depression. It has often been described to me as a trapped feeling. They feel like they can't escape this overwhelming feeling. I darkened my photos and put them into black and white to give it more of a real sense.

Natural Light Portraits

Image
I threw this one in here for fun. I thought it turned out to be a really neat picture :) It was a beautiful overcast day out at Karl Brooks field as the Trailblazers took on the Cougars in a double header Saturday. The lighting was perfect and evenly spread throughout the field. I had to lower my shutter speed and bump up my ISO a little to accommodate for capturing action in a darker light. Most of my photos turned out fantastic and I am happy with the portraits I caught. The best part is they didn't know I was taking these.

Natural Light Portraits (In-Class)

Image
This last one was hard. I felt that my color in my photo was being washed out by the ambient light coming through the windows. Taking photos in existing light is my favorite and over cast days are perfect for it because the light is evenly scattered throughout the sky.

Capturing the Person

Image
This is my roommate Bri. It was tough to choose/take a picture that portrayed her personality but I feel this one does her justice. All in all Bri is a goofball but she knows when to be serious. She is a tough kid who grew up with three older brothers and she loves Fiction novels like Harry Potter. If she is not doing homework or cleaning she is likely to be on her bed caught up in a book. Looking back on the shoot I wish I would have included a book or maybe an animal because she does love them so much.
